Basic Signs

RNID's simple resources will help staff in care homes to support Deaf residents whose first or preferred language is sign language.
Learning some basic phrases and the fingerspelling alphabet will help improve communication with Deaf residents.

Please note, signs are available in both British and Irish sign languages (BSL and ISL). While the majority of sign language users in Northern Ireland use BSL, there is a significant number of people who use ISL. It is important to check with your Deaf resident which sign language they prefer to use.
